Everwant Passage

No one is quite sure how one gets to this place or what it's really called -- if it even has a name -- no one that I have met, or even heard of, at least. But those of us who wander here call it Everwant Passage.

One thing that the denizens of Everwant all seem to have in common is that before coming here, for as long as we can remember, each of us had a very vivid, recurring dream. A different dream for each person, but each as real to the dreamer as the life they led in daylight hours. And then one day... you wake up here, and everything changes. No one ages, no one sleeps in Everwant Passage. We've lost our dreams to this eternal wandering.

But... behind each of the doors that line this endless hallway is a world -- some wondrous strange, some as hauntingly familiar as a half-remembered voice. Rumour has it that each of these worlds is the dream of someone who wanders here, and that if you search for long enough, you'll find your own. So we all keep wandering. We can't afford to give up.

Sometimes it's nice to take a break and abide for a time in one of the many worlds hidden behind those doors. But, in the end, we always go back to wandering, searching for that one door that will lead us to our own dream.

Once in a while two or three of us will even travel together for a time, but there's something about all of us here that makes us more inclined to walk alone. Still, it's good that we have the option to talk to others who understand, when we feel the need. Being alone is a choice... being lonely is not.

A rumour isn't really enough to indefinitely bolster one's hope, of course. But... every now and then maybe one out of every thousand doors I try will be locked against me. I believe that these doors, these worlds, belong to those who have found their dream and reclaimed it as theirs and theirs alone.

Someday I will find the door that leads to my dream. I must believe that I will.
